Network Activites 2008 and beyond...

Following on from your comments last week on the membership thread and general discussions about what we're doing.... and the new funding... we're looking at Network activities....

So what do you want?!

In the past we've done talks, trips, summer camps, interconnect, parties.... what do you want more of, less of or new things completely?!

What things do you want us to do and what do you want to do / start / organise yourselves (with a bit of support!)?

Give us your thoughts!

we would like...

The carlisle Hub would like to invite the whole network to a high tea, and possibly elevensies; In carlisle city centre during the arts festival (between the 23rd may and the 26th ish) Date to be confirmed.
It would be a very civilised affair with doillys and scones, tea in tea pots (no loose tea bags in cups) and tables next to all available public seating.

This is subject to confirmation by The City Centre Management, but we've allready invited the WI.

If the network could help to fund this event it would ensure its actual existence beyond the communal mind of the hub...

High Tea and onwards

I think the high tea idea is a brilliant idea, I would like to see my gorgeous ceramics in windows of shops etc at Art events and festivals. I would also like to see many other peoples art forms doing the same with a high profile, lets not do things by halves, we have to be VISIBLE. Its all very well us ceramists and other artists sitting in our studio/workshops just milling away at what we do, but obviously no one will ever find us hiding in there. And, the people who do "see" our work invariably only see the "end product" , not the work, techniques and processes that bring the work into fruition, so they dont realise any value to it and if they do "see", they do it because they understand or are interested in the creation process. Geoffs Potfests especially the Penrith ones and Matts "out of county" ones are excellent launching pads for new makers and he and Chris and Matt do an excellent job getting the fests up and running. As artists we need to be visible, in the public eye/domain, so how do we do this?? By being passionate about what we do and show those punters what we do upfront,in your face, visible and personal, but we could do with some help. We all know the county ,district or city councils need to help us achieve that too by not doing things by halves. If they would only realise (and they do not realise) how much talent there is in Cumbria alone they would realise what a massive benifits package (in the artists/arts scene) they have on their own doorstep and sell it accordingly. I am sick of councils saying they have no money or funds to help develop the excellence or artists in Cumbria. Why does that pound sign have to be so "huge" in their eyes? Another thing, the councils are notoriously and historically dreadful at responding, replying, contacting to us artists, why is that do we think? because they cant be bothered?? Enough gripeing from me, I am more than happy to help where I can. hugs

more summer camps, more opportunities to network with other networks eg lan, etc. more inter-hub activities aaaaand i really like the idea of a network shop/show/series of shows/tour/plan for world domination.
